Dear Friends, As many of you know, I have dedicated my charitable efforts to raise money for the education of the children at the Ban Kru Noi Home for Poor Children in Bangkok, Thailand. I have now partnered with Global Education Fund (http://www.globaleducationfund.org/), and since May 2004, we have delivered $12,800 to the Ban Kru Noi Foundation. Kru Noi, the woman who runs the foundation, pays for the education of 125 children each year. It is important to her that these disadvantaged children receive an education so that they can improve their lives. You can read more about the home and foundation by going to http://www.moobankru.com/bankrunoi_Eng/e_menu1.html I traveled to Bangkok in May 2006, and delivered a check for $3,200. It was a highlight of the trip to drive Kru Noi and several of the children to the main branch of the Thai Farmer's Bank, the country's central bank. The branch manager always assists me to deposit the check into the account of the Ban Kru Noi Foundation, and he personally expressed his appreciation of what we are all doing to help these children achieve an education. The Thai school year starts in May, so we wanted to help with funding for the 2007 school year as well. We had $1,800 left to distribute, and Eliza Woloson, Executive Director of GEF generously offered to match that amount with an additional $1,800 from GEF. We sent the $3,600 to Kru Noi, and it arrived on April 24, 2007, in time to pay costs for the 2007 school year. In August 2007, I will return to Bangkok for three months to volunteer at Ban Kru Noi, promoting literacy and teaching art to the children. In addition, Eliza Woloson and I will interview Kru Noi and the children. The aim is to evaluate the impact that our scholarship program has had on these children as well as to set up a monitoring system to track their progress in the future.
